Travel Notes
- The vacation rentals we take
reservations for are privately owned homes and are insured and
furnished by individual owners. You may want to plan for certain
conveniences that may not be provided (travel irons, alarm clocks,
beach towels, etc.). All of the rentals include bed and bath
linens and basic household supplies. NOTE: You
will not find any vacation accommodation in the Hana area with
air conditioning; it is generally not needed as we are blessed
with cooling tradewinds most of the time.
- Once we confirm your reservation,
you will receive map and directions to the accommodation along
with the combination to the key lockbox located at the front
door of each accommodation
- Check-in time is any time after 3 pm. Check-out
is 11 am. Early check-ins or late check-outs must be approved
at least 24-hours in advance. We very often have guests checking
in and out on the same day so generally, the 11:00 check-out
time must be observed. Keys will not be available in lockboxes
until after 3:00 pm, so you may want to plan your arrival in
Hana accordingly. It takes approximately two hours to make the
drive to Hana from Kahului.
- Weather: From November -
March (rainy season), plan for cool evenings. March - October,
generally pleasant. Consult a Hawaii travel guide for more details
about Maui and the Hana Coast.
- You may wish to note: Services
are somewhat limited due to Hana's remoteness. Most businesses
(stores, gas stations, etc.) are closed after 7:00 pm. For dining,
the Hana Ranch Restaurant and Hotel Hana Maui dining room require
reservations and have limited hours.
- Having been in the vacation
rental business for 25 years, we've found it a good idea to mention
to first-time visitors a few observations. Hana is in the midst
of a rainforest and you will probably encounter some of the area's
more "natural" residents such as the lizard-like gecko,
mosquitos, and other insects, most of which are harmless. Geckos,
in fact eat quite a few of the other insects so if you come across
them, they appreciate compliments. Frequently, first time visitors
to the tropics are put off by the presence of geckos inside the
house; it is, however, a fact of life and a normal occurrence
in this environment.
